Pilates combines 8 key principles to create a perfectly balanced workout which naturally flows, challenges your body and calms and focuses your mind.
The 8 principles of Body Control Pilates:
Targeting the deep abdominal muscles that support the spine, Pilates builds strength from the inside out, re-balancing the body and bringing it in to correct alignment. Pilates will tone up and reshape your body, creating longer, leaner muscles.
By focusing on precision of movement and alignment, Pilates helps to correct muscle imbalance and provides you with an awareness of how you move your body and hold yourself in every day life. Pilates will improve your posture, achieving a perfect balance between strength and flexibility and is a great way to relieve unwanted stress and tension.
Pilates is a perfect choice for athletes looking to enhance their performance and reduce risk of injury, as well as being ideal for first time exercisers. The safe, controlled approach of Pilates means the results will be much longer term. It is especially recommended by medical specialists for those suffering with back problems.
About Joseph Pilates
Joseph Pilates developed his work from a strong personal experience in fitness.
Unhealthy as a child, he studied many different forms of exercise and self-improvement systems. On his way to developing the Pilates Method, Joseph studied anatomy and developed himself as a body builder, a wrestler, gymnast, boxer and skier. He also worked for many years with dancers and as a trainer in self-defence for the Hamburg police force.
Joseph created the 'Classical Matwork' from what he believed to be the most effective components of all these disciplines; creating a series of exercises that built strength without adding bulk and combined the perfect balance of strength and flexibility.
Many of the classical exercises originally created by Joseph Pilates can take many years to perfect and may well be beyond the capabilities of the average body. Body Control Pilates have therefore broken down these classical exercises to make them more accessible, allowing clients to build safely and effectively towards more demanding dynamic exercise as and when they want to.
